The questions people ask before they call
Working with us
How working with Global Investment Strategies works
Who will I actually be working with?
Doug McClure and Jay Clifford. The client base is intentionally small, so nothing is handed to an account team and nothing gets lost between one meeting and the next. The person you speak with first is the person who does the work.
Where do meetings happen?
Your home, your place of business, or private conference space in Tucson. GIS is a service area business rather than a retail branch, so the meeting goes wherever is easiest for you. Everything is by appointment.
Do you work with people outside Tucson?
The practice is built around Tucson, Oro Valley, Catalina Foothills, Marana, and the surrounding communities. If your attorney or CPA is somewhere else entirely, that is common and it is not a problem. Coordination happens by phone and email as often as in person.
What if I already have a plan I am happy with?
Then the useful outcome is confirming that. A review that finds nothing wrong is worth having, and we will say so plainly rather than manufacturing a reason to change something. Most of the value here is in checking whether the pieces agree, not in replacing them.
How long has GIS been doing this?
Since 2009.
The money question
How GIS is paid
How does GIS get paid?
GIS operates as an independent brokerage rather than charging a percentage of the assets it manages. Doug is licensed to place life insurance, annuities, and investment products from a range of carriers, and when a client purchases one of those products the carrier pays a commission. That is the model, and it is worth knowing before the first conversation rather than after.
Does that mean you are trying to sell me something?
It means you should ask why any particular recommendation is being made, and you should expect a direct answer. Being independent rather than captive to one company matters here: there is no proprietary shelf to move and no quarterly target attached to a specific product. A great deal of the work involves no product at all.
Is there a fee for the first meeting?
No. There is no charge for the initial conversation and no obligation afterward.
Scope
What GIS does not do
Do you give legal or tax advice?
No. GIS provides educational planning concepts and coordinates with the professionals who do give that advice. Documents are drafted by your attorney and tax positions are determined by your CPA. Anything that crosses into either goes to them, and we will tell you which is which.
Do you manage investment portfolios?
That is not the model. Most firms that call themselves financial advisors compete on portfolio performance and charge a percentage of assets each year. GIS works the coordination side: making sure the trust, the tax plan, the insurance, and the income strategy are built on the same set of facts.
Will I have to move my accounts or replace anyone?
No. The premise of the work is that you already have good professionals and nobody has been assigned to make their decisions agree with each other.
How do I get started?
Call (520) 360-8177, or use the contact page. The first conversation is a private review of what you already have.
